Issues 28 - 30

Wylie Times works in a gas station in El Paso, Texas making minimum wage and scamming his customers. Wylie's boring life gets a lot more interesting when Mr. Shepherd and Dizzy come to town. Having been ripped of for gas by a guy called Eight Ball and passing on the favour to Shepherd, Wylie heads for his local bar where wannabe big shots Hopper and 'Doctor' Dan hang out.

Hopper is planning a score, but falls foul of Dizzy, winding up in hospital. Dan persuades Wylie to pretend to be Hopper and they go to meet their connection. It is Eight Ball. Convincing Eight Ball that Wylie is in fact Hopper, they prepare to travel across the border to Juarez. Back at the Motel, Dizzy finds it hard to believe that Wylie is the reason she and Shepherd are there.

Next morning Dizzy and Wylie talk. Wylie says little to change her opinion of him. Wylie and Dan meet with Eight Ball who tells them they need to find a man called Coochie. They set off for Juarez.

In Juarez, Dizzy and Shepherd meet up with a Russian trader, Mik Kuchenko. Kuchenko and Shepherd have a history. Shepherd asks if he's met a man called Wylie. Kuchenko hasn't, and soon leaves to meet with 'Hopper'. Back in El Paso, Eight Ball meets the real Hopper after he is released from hospital.

Kuchenko gives Wylie a truck to drive. An arrangement has been made with a  border guard to look the other way. Kuchenko has added some cargo of his own, a young girl he needs to get to America. Wylie follows Dan to the border, they are hi-jacked and Dan is shot in the head. Wylie thinks his number is up, but is saved when the girl opens up on the hi-jackers with a sub machine gun. To Wylie's surprise, Dizzy climbs into the truck soon after. They somehow make it across the border. Wylie tells Dizzy what has happened and how Dan was killed. They decide to open the truck and inspect the cargo. It's full of exotic birds. As they stare in disbelief, Hopper and Eight Ball arrive, tooled up.

Eight Ball and Dizzy know each other from Chicago. As threats are exchanged, Wylie tells Hopper that Dan is dead. Hopper cracks and attacks Eight Ball before releasing the birds. They both leave. Shepherd arrives and calls Wylie by name. Wylie wants to know why Shepherd feels he knows him as the first time they met was two days before. Shepherd says that was their first meeting since Atlantic City. Wylie says he has the wrong guy. Shepherd wishes he knew the word that would turn Wylie back into the right guy again. Before they leave, Shepherd tells Wylie he's sorry, and hopes he remembers that.
